The family of Mzee Joseph Odipo Amolo regrets to announce the passing of their beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, relative, and friend. 

Mzee Joseph Odipo Amolo passed away peacefully on the morning of 19th June 2026, at 3:27 AM at Trinity Care Centre, Ngong. 

His passing is a great loss to the family, relatives, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be remembered for his wisdom, kindness, guidance, and the positive impact he made in the lives of many. 

The family humbly requests prayers, support, and thoughts for the family during this difficult period of mourning. 

May the Almighty grant him eternal rest and comfort all those who mourn him.

Eulogy of the Late Mzee Joseph Amolo Odipo

Birth and Early Life
Mzee Joseph Amolo Odipo was born on 01 July 1955 as the fifth born child to Linus Odipo Amolo and Bibiana Sikeyo Abonyo in Naikoke town in Uganda. He grew up in Karungu Village, Rumbiye in Samia sub-county in Busia. As a boy he was adventerous, curios and a mobilizer of his siblings, young relatives, friends and neighbourrs. He was friendly. He was a man of ideas. He was funny.

Education
As a child he went to Nandrema Primary School where he completed his Certificate of Primary Education (CPE) from 1961-1968. In 1971, he proceeded to Sigalame High School to complete the East African Certificate of Education (EACE) in 1974.

Employment and Work
As a young man, he started working for the Government of Kenya seconded at The Aerodrome Department under the Office of The President (OP), Embakasi in 1976. He has been an ardent civil servant holding various roles under the OP until his retirement in 2015.

Marriage and Family
He met the love of his life, Sarah Ayieko Oundo in 1976 in Kitale. She was on attachment from college and staying at his elder brother's guest house, while he was on leave when he was at The Aerodromes. Their love story begun in 1977 and the rest is a very visible story.

Church and Community
Mzee Odipo was a devout Catholic having received his first baptism in 1954. He was confirmed in 1967 in Nangina. He always valued friendship even over his own comfort or convenience. In an interesting inci-dence, on the day of his confirmation he afterwards went to play football with friends at Jekonia field where he misplaced his new clothes after leaving them with a boy to play the game. He was a highly valued member of the St. John And Sylvia, Our Lady of Divine Mercy Shrine, Kitengela and part of the leadership of the Catholic Justice and Peace Department (CJPD) there.

Many have testified of how Mzee intervened, supported, helped or counselled them in various situations. Mzee Odipo used his very extensive social network not to enrich himself but to benefit the people around him, whether he knew them deeply or knew them through a friend of a friend. When a need was shared with him it became lighter because he carried half of it. If we begin to narrate the stories here, this will become a book.

Illness and Passing
Following an unfortunate assault on him on the night of 24th May 2026, he was found the next morning by kind boda boda riders who knew him and was rushed by Police to hospital for urgent medical attention. He was soon transferred to Nairobi West Hospital to the ICU and later HDU. After more than 3 weeks of significant improvement he suddenly developed complications on the night of 18th June while being nursed at a healthcare centre, where he went to be with the Lord in the early hours of 19th June 2026.
